2011 Inventor of the Year Award
The last event of the year was held in April for the Inventor of the Year Award Ceremony and Dinner. Two of the three winning inventors spoke eloquently regarding their invention, its applicability and the path they had taken to get there. There were about twenty-five people in attendance and it was an enjoyable evening and a good end to this year’s program. This year's Inventor of the Year recipients, Alfred Grill, Ph.D.; Stephen M. Gates, Ph.D.; and The Honorable Vishnubhai V. Patel, are researchers at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and were honored for U.S. Patent Numbers 6,312,793; 6,437,443; and 6,479,110, relating to MULTIPHASE LOW DIELECTRIC CONSTANT MATERIAL. The invention discloses a low dielectric constant, multiphase material which can be used as an interconnect dielectric in IC chips. Also disclosed is a method for fabricating a multiphase low dielectric constant film utilizing a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique. The invention also teaches electronic devices containing insulating layers of the multiphase low dielectric constant materials that are prepared by this method.
